Treasures
When I was a child I dreamed of finding buried treasure. I pretended to be on a treasure hunt and dug up our backyard much to the chagrin of my parents. While other times I
placed old baseball cards against the spokes of my bicycle tires enjoying the rat-a-tat sound, as I peddled down the street. Though all my treasure hunts to
old buildings and open lots gained me a collection of brass fittings which I thought were gold, I was peddling to and from these locations destroying
baseball cards, that are today worth thousands of dollars!
What was my problem? My definition of treasure was not the same as others. What I thought was trash was some one else’s treasure and visa versa. How is that possible? Because what we believe to be valuable is demonstrated by the amount of thoughts we expend for it.
Therefore, the true definition of treasure is the amount of thoughts expended for an item.
No thought expended for it, it is therefore trash. Great amounts of thought expended for it, it is therefore treasure. The greater the thoughts dedicated for the item, the greater the treasure it is. What is your treasure? The real question is to what do you devote the majority of your thinking?
What was David’s treasure?
Psalms 119:97-103, ” O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.
Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts. I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word. I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me. How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”
Psalms 119:162, “I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil. (treasure)”
How about Solomon?
Proverbs 2:1-5, “My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.”
Jesus Christ?
Matthew 6:19-21, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Do I still go on treasure hunts? You bet! But not in fields or old buildings. Just one look at my Bible will tell you where I dig!

This is so precious! His Truth and all his promises are great treasures to be treasured! We too are to be treasured as we seek to obey his Word and his commandments for us. As we grow into our new identities. Not taking anything he has given to us for granted is how We treasure and honor and bless our Father. He also treasures us!!!
